Born into the British banking dynasty of Coutts & Co, today the private bank to the British royal family, The Hon. Drummond Money-Coutts (commercially known as âDMCâ) began life captivated by the paranormal and the mysterious. At the age of eight his father, Lord Crispin Latymer, took DMC to the UKâs oldest magic store (a store called âDavenportsâ, which lay beneath the vaults of Coutts & Co. main headquarters) where DMCâs interest with the art of performance magic truly began.
As a student at one of the worldâs oldest colleges (Eton College, founded in 1440) that interest soon became an obsession as DMC forsook his academic responsibilities to instead focus upon card magic, mind-reading, spoon-bending and the intense study of magicâs elaborate history and greatest figures. Far from being just a performer, DMC has remained a lifelong student and academic of his art.
Upon graduating, DMC first attempted to follow the family profession with internships at Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch, but soon ran away to India where he committed his life to sharing his magic with the world. From India he travelled right across Asia and the USA to meet with magicians of all different styles and backgrounds, and studied their many techniques and methods. Returning to London, DMC began developing his own professional career as a magician, and his audiences had soon included royal families, sultans, sheikhs, presidents and prime ministers right around the world.
Running parallel to these personal performances, DMC also travelled widely to make his own amateur short films forYouTube. In 2013 DMC was commissioned by National
Geographic to make his debut television special âCARD SHARKâ, which proved a global success and lead in 2015 to a seven-part, $4 million series with the network, âBEYOND
MAGIC WITH DMCâ. In 2018 DMC signed with Netflix to create âDEATH BY MAGICâ â an eight-part, $10 million series for the network and one of the largest shows of its kind ever produced. In 2023 DMC launched his own one-man show âIMPĂSSIBLEâ at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi, and in doing so became the first magician to have his own permanent residency in the history of the Middle East region.
With live performances now having spanned 52 different countries, DMC is one of the most established figures on the global magic scene. His own brands of playing cardsâthe DMC ELITES and the DMC ALPHASâhave sold to many tens of thousands of magicians worldwide, and during the COVID-19 lockdown DMC launched his very first card game called âZILCH!â, which is now selling worldwide and is currently being adapted into a $1 million digital app in Abu Dhabi. His follow-up game âFIBSYâ is set to launch in 2024, and DMC speaks English, French, Spanish, Italian and Hindi.
