Chart of the Week
The Big 10:
Broader perspective than just the future of learning, but highly relevant to it. The reality of AI soon is that you will have “a Country of geniuses in a data center.” Having an AI-first mindset will be a start of how to compete in the highly disruptive World we are entering. We all need to take time to really understand how to use AI as our strategic advantage.
Who Wants to Work in a Factory? | Arena Magazine
America’s history is one of building…but offshoring, outsourcing, and manicures have created a gap that needs to be filled. Thanks to the progression of AI, we’re reaching the point where technology is replacing the technologist. This causes a demand imbalance is for manufacturing workers. The mantra of “College for all!” has been replaced by “College at all?” with high paying jobs available made in America.
Duolingo hits all-time high after owl’s demise | Sherwood
RIP Duo…with the stock price trading at a sky-high 25X revenue, perhaps the Duolingo owl ran out of oxygen. In any event, brilliant marketing is only part of the reason $DUOL stock is up 30% in the past 30 days alone. With or without its feathered friend, the company continues to soar.
India, Before It Was Cool | Hoover Institution
In real estate, it’s “location, location, location”….in education, it should be about “jobs, jobs, jobs”. Unlike in the United States where working for the government rarely tops the wish lists of our best and brightest students, working for the government is the brass ring for many in India. The country has the opportunity to increase the amount of women in the workforce and develop its population’s entrepreneurial skills.

How American Educators Are Conning Kids | The Free Press
Saying that all of your students can swim but watching half drown when you throw them in the pool is criminal. Likewise, lowering school standards for what qualifies as “proficient” a travesty for students and society. With U.S. students performing near the bottom in every category compared to our international counterparts, we must fine a ways to rise up.
The Real Way to Stop Cheating in an AI World | Richard Culatta
LOVE this article by former Director of Education Technology for the Department of Ed, Richard Culatta. It’s bizarre to me how the introduction of generative AI has caused an epidemic of cheating. The sad reality is that students have always “cheated” — and not to sound like my parents — but the only person who really gets hurt is the cheater themselves. We can prevent cheating by demonstrating how the material is relevant to the learner and showing the return on investment for their time—specifically, how it will benefit them in areas they care about.
Artificial Intelligence Use Among U.S. Educators | RAND
History doesn’t repeat itself but it rhymes. Reminiscent of the Internet circa ~1998, only 25% of K-12 educators report using AI for helping with lesson plans and other materials. Poor schools show a lower percentage of usage and wealthier schools have a higher participation. Prediction: in next year’s survey it will be well over 80%.
Trump’s pick for education chief sketches a roadmap for dismantling the department | AP
I’ve made it clear that I’d like to see the Department of Education not be abolished but to instead reimagine how it can be the “tip of the spear” on leading our country to education excellence. That said, the winds of change in Washington are clearly blowing in the direction of extinguishing the DOE and sending most of the money back to the states. Congress would have to approve this move, but one thing almost all of us can agree on is that leaving the DOE as status quo doesn’t serve anybody well…except for a handful of adults.
🎙️ Ep 35 · Ryan Craig: Managing Director, Achieve Partners | Ed on the Edge | Dash Media
Ryan is a longtime friend and one of our favorite strategic thinkers in the education space. A few of his current obsessions include reimagining the role of higher education, apprenticeships, and combing learning and earning.
Thank you for the kind words!
